Am I too young/old for gastric bypass surgery?

Suitable candidates for bariatric weight loss surgery will be assessed on an individual patient-patient basis. If gastric bypass is the best weight loss solution will depend on the overall health of the patient. 

Bariatric surgeons do not recommend surgery for anyone who is under the age of 16. This is to ensure that the patient is aware of the implications of surgery, however if a weight loss surgeon believes a younger patient may benefit from gastric bypass surgery there is no minimum legal age. 

Gastric bypass surgery may not be suitable for elderly patients due to the strain an operation can put on the health of the heart and weight loss surgery is not commonly recommended for patients over the age of 65.
