How is Gastric Bypass surgery performed?

Gastric bypass surgery is the most popular weight loss surgery. Bariatric surgeons combine both restrictive and malabsoptive methods of bariatric surgery to perform gastric bypass surgeries.

Gastric bypass is performed laparoscopically - a small incision is made and a camera is inserted to guide the surgeons through the procedure, avoiding a large incision and scar.

Weight loss surgeons separate the stomach into two small pouches. The larger section becomes unused and the smaller pouch acts as the functioning stomach. Surgeons reconnect the new stomach pouch to the small intestine.

As the procedure is performed laparoscopically the recovery after surgery is quick.
