Restrictive method of Gastric Bypass Surgery
When you eat, triggers are sent to your brain to tell you to stop eating when your stomach is full. One of the causes of obesity is overeating - due to either a hormonal disfunction when hormones fail to send signals to the brain to tell you to stop eating, or because of a psychological reason causing overeating. Without weight loss surgery, overeating is easy as your stomach can stretch to allow you to keep eating food after you are full.
Weight loss surgery, in part, works by restricting the amount of food the stomach can hold.
The restrictive element of gastric bypass separates the stomach into two sections. The smaller of the two sections becomes the stomach pouch that holds food. The other section is sealed and is not used.
The functioning stomach after surgery is smaller and is unable to stretch. This limits the amount of food it is possible to eat.
Gastric Bypass surgery prevents people from overeating as the stomach pouch simply cannot hold excess food and if a patient overeats, nausea or dumping will occur.
