  • The body absorbs alcohol quicker after gastric bypass procedures. Patients absorb 4 times the amount of alcohol from one drink after surgery compared to before surgery
  • Alcohol is sugary and can cause dumping syndrome, a common side effect of gastric bypass
  • Alcohol can cause stomach ulcers and patients who have had weight loss surgery are more at risk of developing ulcers
  • Alcohol is not recommended 6 months post-surgery to allow the stomach to heal
